Botanical Gardens

Today, I got the pleasure of checking something else off my bucket list! Playing tourist in my hometown really is fun. I have talked to so many locals that have lived here for many years, yet haven't taken advantage of the great things this place has to offer. Today Sully, Gavyn and I headed out to the Denver Botanical Gardens to celebrate Earth Day! Since Earth Day is a free day at the Botanical Gardens, and it happened to be during the week, I thought it would be great to take in the scenes. Usually, I like to brag when I have a good idea, but on this particular occasion my idea wasn't one of my more brilliant ones. It was a picture perfect day in the mid 60's without a cloud in the sky.

We got to the gardens mid-morning, luckily we found a parking spot about a block away. That should have been my first sign that this might not be a very good idea. As we start to walk towards the entrance, we see about 10 school buses. Another great sign that this was a bad idea. Oh well, we are already there, and it is still a free activity. So in we go, and we come to find out that about every pre-school in Denver County brought their class to celebrate Earth Day! Not to mention all the classes from the local elementary schools, the stay at home mom's, and then the retirees that were out enjoying the weather.

Well, we were already there so of course, we were going to make the best of it. Some of the areas were absolutely beautiful. They have a great coy fish pond with a wooden over look to really get a good luck at the fish. Gavyn seemed to be a fan of the fish, as was I. This would be a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic.

The grass was bright green and soft to sit on. Sully mentioned that she was surprised that there were as many flowers in bloom as there were. I thought about it for a minute and then asked, why she thought that...after all we are in the spring season. She was quick to point out that we had snow in the last week. Being new to the Denver area, I always forget that we get snow. It never sticks for longer then a day or two.

I will definitely be heading back to the botanical gardens this summer. It is a quaint enjoyable way to spend a leisurely afternoon. I am even considering becoming a member. Wow, I officially feel old, when I was younger, I would never ever had wanted to become a member of the botanical gardens.
