Hungry asked me today what the distance from Denver, Colorado to Spokane, Washington. Thinking about the question for a few seconds I quickly responded with "roughly the same distance from Denver, Co to the top of Georgia or about 1200 miles." He looked at me like I had five heads. I said "here, I'll look it up for you."
The distance from Denver, CO to Spokane, WA is 1,099 miles. The distance from Denver to Chattanooga (pretty close to the Georgia boarder) is 1,287. Although, I was off I was still incredibly impressed with my ability to guess within 100 miles of both, as was Hungry. I enjoyed the challenge, the look on Hungry's face, and the feeling of being on target.
I have always had a thing for miles, whether it is miles per gallon, counting miles between exits (which I no longer have to do, because they changed the interstate system) or even watching the odometer line up to the tenth degree. Strange yes, but we all have our quirks.
