When I was a kid, I can remember my dad coming home and saying he got new tires for one of the family cars. My mother was less then thrilled when she found he had purchased used tires. It has been an on going family joke, when poppa dukes says he is going to get a new tires or that he just got new tires. To my knowledge he has never made that mistake again, but I wouldn't put it past him if he tried again sometime down the road.
I really didn't know that there was such a market for used tires. Looking back at it now, I can only remember my mom making a big deal about the used tires, so I thought for sure that no one else in their right mind would ever do that...oh how wrong I was. Last night, the Delegate and I drove over to Lakewood, so he could buy 3 used tires from someone he found on Craigslist. I did find the entire story rather comical. First that finally met someone else who shops for used tires, secondly that we were only buying 3!
When we meet up with the lady she explains why she is selling the tires (does anyone really need to know why, but I digress), and we look at the tread. The delegate was correct, these $20.00 tires will last almost a year and will save him about $700. Okay, so the question I still have is he only bought 3...Does that mean he will buy a brand new 4th tire or will he search for an equally used 4th? Where is the logic about buying used tires? He was a good sport about me picking on him with the used tires. All in all, had I known that there was such a market for used tires I probably wouldn't have picked on him so badly. I guess I need to remove myself from the sheltered life I am currently leading.
