I must admit that I really do love the Olympics. I find myself cheering for people I have never even heard of, simply for the fact that they are Americans. Not only am I cheering for them, but I feel some sort of personal connection with the American athletes. I even find myself paying attention to events that I didn't even know where Olympic sports. For instance, I got sucked into the women's final badminton match. The best part of the match is that the two women competing for the gold were both from China. It wasn't as if it was just the highlights, I turned on the television and saw a little bit of it, when upstairs got my coffee and computer and came back down to watch on the big screen downstairs. I needed my computer because I wanted to learn the rules of badminton. I didn't know anyone actually played badminton outside of a family bbq, so of course I didn't have a clue how to serve, how to score, or how many points they play. After a little research, I seem to be a pro (well, at least I know the rules).

I am not alone, I was talking to Ames the other day about being sucked into random sports. She enlightened me that she watched 2 hours of canoing! I thought she was kidding, but sure enough that also is an Olympic sport! Now explain to me how golf isn't an Olympic sport yet canoing is considered one.
It is a rainy day here in Denver, and I am actually kind of glad it is. It gives me a chance to kick back and relax. I can watch as much of the Olympics as I want. Currently, their is 2000m rowing on the television. The US took the Silver medal in the womens, but we didn't even have a competitor in the men's final. Apparently, we aren't a big power house in the men's division. Look at me I talk like I am actually on the team. Now on to the men's 2 man 2000m rowing, twin brothers are representing the US. I was a little disappointed to learn that this is the first international event the boys have ever competed in. I understand that they did their part, by earning their spot in the Olympic trials, but something is to be said about experience. Unfortunately, we finished in 6th place...at least we had a chance to compete in the finals for the gold. Lord knows they did a better job than I ever could!
We have about a week left of the Olympics and I hope to be able to enjoy many more random events.
