Recently, several interstates had been shut down for more than a day due to an avalanche. Cars were stuck on the road for than 24 hours. Some cars were lucky enough to get off the interstate only to have to sleep in their cars in public parking lots. Apparently, this kind of thing happens all the time in the winter.
I had been trying to put together an emergency kit to keep in my car. My aunt sent me a great care package to add to my emergency kit...individual peanut butter packets, space blanket for two, and car kit included with jumper cables, flares, orange triangles, and a tool kit.
My friends and I were headed back from the mountains when we got caught in a terrible snow storm. We sat on the interstate for about two hours not moving an inch. Of course, since there was no avalanche, it had to be a car accident or in our case multiple accidents. One car went off the side of the road closing down one lane, and about a mile or two later two different trucks decided to smash into the side of guard rail, closing down the other lane. There we sat, snow coming down at a record pace, traffic not moving and only a half a tank of gas. To make matters worse, criminole, sj and werd all got hungry! Good news for them, I had it taken care of.
In my emergency kit, I had candy (to keep my sugar up), beef jerky (for protein), potato chips (for salt), peanut butter packets (protein), and bottled water to wash it all down. I looked like a star, I had food to feed them. Of course they had to ask me why I had so much food and so many different options. Now I am the laughing stock of the gang. Evidently, not very many people have avalanche survival kits in their car, but of course the Floridian would have one. :) Eat up girls.
Make today fabulous!
